Bumper Sunday fixtures for Title, Europe and relegation fight in Ligue 1

Saint-Étienne V Marseille - 1200

Fridays match between Lens and Lille was going to impact the race for Europe and the title no matter what the result. With Lille winning though, Marseille just need to avoid defeat on Sunday lunch time to overtake Lens in 5th. Finishing in 5th place guarantees a Europa League spot and OM Manager Jorge Sampaoli will be desperate to get his new team there. Sampaoli's all out attacking philosophy will meet Claude Puel's more defensive and pragmatic tactics. Whilst Saint-Étienne have little to play for, they have started scoring regularly in recent games. Les Marseillais only have two clean sheets since Sampaoli took over in March so it's easy to see Les Verts scoring. L'OM themselves have only failed to score once under the Argentinian's stewardship so there should be goals in this game. Whilst a point is enough to go 5th with two games to go it is not in Sampaoli's nature to play for a draw. It will be interesting to see if Les Stephanois can soak up the pressure and hit L'OM on the break with Khazri, Bouanga and Hamouma. Alternatively will Marseille bulldoze Puel's side with their all out attack. The first goal could be crucial here. If Saint-Étienne score first they will feel comfortable defending their lead. If Marseille score first Puel's team will have to open up which suits L'OM down to the ground.

Frenchfooty prediction: Saint-Étienne 2 - Marseille 3

One to watch: Romain Hamouma - Saint-Étienne. The 34 year old French Winger has 6 goals and 1 assist this season. Two of those goals though have come in his last 5. and his team have started scoring more freely of late (11 goals in 5 games.) Despite his age he is very quick and causes teams problems with his pace. He scored in the reverse fixture at the Velodrome so could well be involved in any goals Saint-Étienne score.

Saint-Étienne v Marseille kicks off at 1200 on Sunday 9th May and is live on BT Sport ESPN

Strasbourg V Montpellier - 1400

With Nantes winning convincingly at home to Bordeaux on Saturday, Strasbourg really need to win to get out of danger of relegation. Les coureurs have some good players (Lala, Diallo and Ajorque) but are having a difficult season and have only one win in seven games.. They host a Montpellier side that are safe but cannot qualify for Europe. They will also be without regular midfielders Savanier and Mollet. La Paillade have impressive attacking players though in Mavididi, Laborde and Delort. The latter two are one of Ligue 1's best strike partnerships with 13 goals apiece this season. This should be tiga close game but hopefully see some goals.

Frenchfooty prediction: Strasbourg 2 - Montpellier 2

One to watch: Ludovic Ajorque - Strasbourg. The 27 year old Centre forward is Strasbourg's top scorer this season with 13 league goals and 4 assists. He is not blessed with pace but is big, strong, good in the air and can finish. If Strasbourg are to stay up they will need more goals from him in the last three games of the season.

Strasbourg V Montpellier kicks off at 1400 on Sunday 9th May. It is live on BT Sport ESPN.

Metz V Nimes - 1400

Nantes' win over Bordeaux put Strasbourg in danger but is a disaster for Nimes. With only relegated Dijon below them they are now the team at most risk of automatic relegation. They lie 19th and 5 points behind Nantes who occupy the relegation play off place. At least finishing 18th gives you a chance of staying up. Les Nimois really need to win at Metz on Sunday to have any chance of surviving. Their recent form has been poor with no wins in 5 games. Metz's form wasn't much better until last week when they thumped desperate Dijon 5 - 1 away from home. Nimes have all the incentive to go for the win but will not find it easy despite Metz not having as much to play for.

Frenchfooty prediction: Metz 1 V Nimes 1

One to watch: Renaud Ripart - Nimes. Les Crocodiles´ French striker is their top scorer this season with 10 goals. If Nimes have any chance of winning here they will need him to be at his best.

Metz V Nimes kicks off at 1400 on Sunday 9th May. It is not shown on British Television.

Reims V Monaco - 1605

Lyon thrashed Lorient on Saturday 4 - 1 to take the third place Champions League spot from Monaco. That means Les Monégasques need to beat Reims to take it back. Niko Kovač’s men should feel confident of a win here despite having some quality players out; Jovetic (6 goals), Golovin (4 goals 8 assists), Martins (3 goals 2 assists) and Diop (7 goals 1 assist). They will also be without substitute forwards Geubbels and Pellegri who are both suspended after their part in the after match scuffle with Lyon last week. Monaco have the squad to cope with this though. Wissam Ben Yedder and Kevin Volland have scored goals for fun this season, 19 and 17 respectively. Both will be confident of adding to that here. Reims have their top goal scorer Boulaye Dia available too. He has 14 league goals so far. and scored at Monaco earlier in the season (2-2). Monaco should have too much quality for Reims though. They need to win and should be favourites here.

Frenchfooty prediction: Reims 1 V Monaco 3

One to watch: Wissam Ben Yedder - Monaco. We highlighted the French international striker last week but he’s in such good goal scoring form its hard to look elsewhere. Three goals in his last three games and Monaco’s penalty taker. It would be no surprise to see him add to his 19 leagues goals in this game.

Reims V Monaco kicks off at 1605 on Sunday 9th May and is live on BT Sport ESPN.

Rennes V PSG - 2000

Lille are now 4 points clear at the top of the table so PSG need to win in Brittany to keep in touch with them. Of Paris's three remaining games Rennes should provide the sternest test. The Bretons are in 7th place but a win here could take them up to 5th, depending on Marseille's result earlier in the day. They had been in decent form until last week's 1 - 0 loss at struggling Bordeaux. Les Rennais will be without two of their influential midfielders, Nzonzi and Camavinga, who are both suspended. They have goals in their team with Guirassy (10 goals) and Terrier (9) but it will be difficult for them to keep the ball. Paris could be without Marco Verratti (Contusion) and certainly they'll be no Kylian Mbappe (suspended). Mauricio Pochettino's team really need a good reaction here after crashing out of Europe midweek to Manchester City. Even without Mbappe they should have too much quality for Rennes. They certainly did earlier in the season when they thrashed the Bretons 3 - 0 and Mbappe didn't play then either. PSG should win this but will they still be feeling sorry for themselves after their Champion's league loss? Paris lost their heads a little in that match and struggle at times with discipline. If they do that here the title could be Lilles.

Frenchfooty prediction: Rennes 1 V PSG 3

One to watch: Moise Kean - PSG. The Italian's loan spell from Everton has been a complete success. He has 15 league goals and 1 assist and often steps up to the plate when other forwards are injured or suspended. He scored against Rennes earlier in the season and if Paris do win here he could well be on the score sheet.

Rennes V PSG kicks off at 2000 on Sunday 9th May and is live on BT Sport 2.
